Billing and plans

Temprix offers a Free plan and paid plans for growing teams. Plan features and per-seat prices are on Pricing. This page describes how billing works in the product.

Billing is per workspace. Each workspace has its own plan and subscription. Plans do not carry over between workspaces.

Temprix ships four plan tiers: Free, Standard, Business, and Enterprise. Feature gates and list prices are on Pricing.

Paid plans bill for active members in the workspace. A member counts toward the seat total only while their status is active. Restricted and deactivated members are not billed. See Members for how status and the Free member cap interact.

When the active member count changes, Temprix updates the Stripe subscription quantity immediately (on member create, activate, or deactivate) with prorated charges or credits. A daily reconciler re-syncs every paid workspace as a backup; it does not wait for the next billing cycle to pick up seat changes.

On a monthly plan, each billing period charges for the active members on the subscription. Mid-cycle seat changes prorate through Stripe as soon as the count syncs, and the next invoice includes those adjustments.

On an annual plan, the base subscription renews once per year. Seat changes during the year still sync immediately with prorated line items. Stripe rolls those adjustments into monthly true-up invoices between renewal dates (pending_invoice_item_interval). The daily reconciler only catches drift if an immediate sync was missed.

Credits from seat reductions apply to future invoices. Temprix does not refund unused time when a subscription is cancelled mid-period.

Workspaces created from the Demo dataset cannot subscribe or open billing flows. Billing settings explain that a new workspace is required to choose a plan. See Workspaces.

On Free, a workspace may have at most 10 active members (the default cap). When the cap is already full, a new member is still created but starts as restricted: they can sign in and read, but cannot change events or configuration. Restricted members are not billed and do not enter coverage.

The same status applies when a paid workspace downgrades to Free with more than 10 active members. Temprix restricts overflow automatically, starting with members whose last activity is oldest. The workspace owner is never restricted this way. On upgrade off Free, every restricted member returns to active.

Restricted members see a read-only banner in the app. Event mutations return a MEMBER_RESTRICTED error with the message that access is currently read-only. Full rules and the status table are on Members.

First paid upgrade (Free workspace with no active Stripe subscription) uses Stripe Checkout. Only the workspace owner can start checkout. Checkout opens from Settings → Billing → All plans, with a choice of plan tier and monthly or annual billing. The session bills the current count of active members.

After checkout, plan changes, payment methods, invoices, and cancellation for an existing subscription use the Stripe Customer Portal, opened from Manage billing on the billing settings page. Portal access also requires the workspace owner and an existing Stripe customer on the workspace (hasBillingHistory).

Workspace admins manage members and settings but cannot start checkout or open the portal. That matches the owner-only billing operations listed on Members.

When Stripe reports a failed invoice payment, the workspace is marked past due. The flag clears when the invoice is paid. A failed payment does not restrict members by itself.

The workspace owner receives email with a link to the billing portal. Owners and admins who can manage billing also see an in-app banner to update the payment method. Access continues while Stripe retries; the banner states that retries run automatically.

Open Settings → Billing in the workspace (/{namespace}/settings/billing).

From there an owner can:

  • See the current plan, billing interval, active member count, and renewal date
  • Open All plans to compare tiers and start checkout from Free
  • Open Manage billing in Stripe for invoices, payment methods, and subscription changes when billing history exists

Plan comparison and marketing detail stay on Pricing.

Upgrading or changing tier on an existing paid subscription is done in the Stripe Customer Portal, not through a second Checkout session.

Cancelling is also done in the portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period (cancelAtPeriodEnd). The workspace keeps paid access until billingPeriodEnd. Data is not deleted. After the period ends, the workspace returns to Free and Free plan limits apply again, including the member cap.

Temprix does not refund unused time on mid-period cancellation. For uncertainty about annual commitment, starting on monthly billing is the safer default.

Enterprise pricing is custom. The plan picker routes to contact sales rather than self-serve checkout.

Prices on Pricing are in USD and exclude VAT. Stripe Checkout collects tax identifiers when upgrading (tax_id_collection is enabled). VAT and sales tax treatment depend on billing address and customer type; see the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for the legal position. EU business customers with a valid VAT number are handled under reverse charge at checkout, as described on Pricing.
